WARCHAL Amber cello A string, metal core | Metzler Violin Shop
The synthetic-core Amber set for cello combines the powerful projection of metal strings with the full-bodied depth and warmth of gut.
When we developed our Brilliant cello set in 2010, we began a specific journey. Although synthetic-core strings for cello havenāt become standard yet, we were able to offer cellists all the advantages they bring.
The early response from the cello-playing community confirmed we were on the right path. Players appreciated the textured sound that can be shaped almost endlessly by adjusting bowing speedāand even more so, the contact point. Many Brilliant users told us that their instruments sounded more relaxed while maintaining their unique character.
Taking this feedback into account, we set out to create another optionāone that would come even closer to the robust sound projection typically associated with metal strings, while preserving the warmth and complexity that have become hallmarks of our cello strings. The result is the Amber set for cello.
Because synthetic-core A strings can be fragileāboth in handling and durabilityāwe also offer a metal-core version of the Amber A string. This is the first cello string to feature our latest invention: the helix winding solution. Originally developed by Bohdan Warchal in 2013 to solve sound imbalance and whistling issues on violin E strings, the helix was later successfully applied to viola strings. Now, cellists can enjoy a metal A string with increased elasticity and remarkable tonal quality.
Amber cello strings have lower tension than steel-core strings, making them an excellent choice even for more delicate instruments.
Please note: these strings require about three days of playing time to settle and reach their full tonal potential.
