Anton D. Voit was born in Germany in 1882 and emigrated to the US in 1913. He worked for Carl Fischer in Chicago in 1915, with Rudolph Wurlitzer from 1916-1920, and William Lewis from 1920-1923. In 1923, Voitestablished his Chicago shop with Leroy Geiger and he died in 1952.
Leroy F. Geiger, born in 1900, started making violins in Grinnel, Iowa and then worked for Carl G. Becker from 1919-1924 at William Lewis & Son. He studied with John Hornsteiner III and then worked for him from 1919 until 1923, when he left to open a shop with Voit. Geiger later moved to Los Angeles where he died in 1960.
This violin has a direct, mature tone that would be well suited for orchestral and chamber playing. Its light, reddish-brown varnish features beautiful craquelle and the two piece back has brilliant flaming. This instrument is in excellent condition.
