This violinās single-piece back has a strong medium curl, accentuated by a lovely reddish-brown varnish applied over a wheat ground. The scroll bears similar flames. Tom Metzler selected this violin himself from Trabucchiās Cremona shop.
About the Maker
Stefano Trabucchi (1970- ) was born in Sondrio, Italy and began studying the violin at eight years old. When he was fourteen, he began attending the Stradivari Institution of Violinmaking in Cremona, working with master luthiers Massimo Negroni and Stefano Conia. A kind of wunderkind, Trabucchi graduated with honors in 1988 and began to apprentice at Marco Nolliās workshop. In 1992, at only twenty-two, Trabucchi opened his own atelier in Cremonaās historic center, drawing upon the ancient traditions of the luthier city, cultivating original plans and models for his instruments. Along with his particular attention for wood selections, Trabucchiās trademark work includes incorporating gold and jewel embellishments to his instruments. He has earned an array of international prizes, including the Triennale of Cremona Prize. Trabucchi has held many public positions for luthiers and artisans, including President of the Violinmakersā of Cremona group, President of Confartigianato Imprese Cremona, board member of Consorzio liutai A. Stradivari, among others.
